I lost my passkey
What to do when you can't sign in because the passkey on your account is gone - after a PC reset, a new phone, or a lost device - and why Salad can't remove it for you.
The short version. A passkey protects your account with something only your device holds. Salad never has a copy, so support cannot remove or reset a passkey. The way back in is the backup codes you were shown when you set the passkey up. If those are gone too, the account cannot be unlocked.
If you still have your backup codes
- On the sign-in page, choose the option to use a backup code instead of the passkey.
- Enter one unused code. Each code works once.
- Once signed in, go to your account security settings, remove the old passkey, add a new one on the device you use now, and store the new backup codes somewhere that isn't that device - a password manager or a printout.
If you have neither the passkey nor the codes
Salad has no way to verify that the person asking is the account owner without one of them, so the passkey can't be removed. The only option is to delete the account and create a new one with the same email address:
- Any remaining Salad Balance, earnings history and targeted-reward progress are lost with the account. This cannot be reversed.
- Send the account deletion request to Salad Support from the account's email address, with your username, saying you've lost your passkey and backup codes and want the account deleted. Deletion normally completes within minutes, after which the same email can be used to sign up again.
Before a PC reset or a new phone
Passkeys stored in Windows Hello live on that PC. Before you reset Windows, replace a phone, or reinstall, make sure your backup codes are saved somewhere else, or add a second passkey on another device.
If the passkey exists but won't work (Windows Hello errors, the prompt never appears), see Passkey troubleshooting - that's usually fixable.
