Misrepresenting Hardware on Salad
Spoofing or otherwise misrepresenting your hardware on Salad is a breach of our Terms of Service. Any person found doing so will be permanently banned from using Salad's services or otherwise punished.
What Counts as Hardware Spoofing?
Hardware spoofing is any attempt to make Salad believe your machine has different hardware than it actually does. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Changing the reported model of your GPU or CPU, such as making an older GPU appear as a newer, in-demand model
- Faking the amount of VRAM, RAM, storage, or other system specifications
- Editing drivers, registry entries, or system files to alter how your hardware is identified
- Using third-party tools, scripts, or virtual machines to disguise or fake your hardware
Why Does It Matter?
Salad assigns workloads based on the hardware each machine reports. Our customers rely on that information being accurate, and workloads sent to a machine that can't actually run them will fail. Misrepresenting your hardware harms our customers, the reliability of the Salad network, and every other Chef who depends on it.
What If My Hardware Is Being Detected Incorrectly?
If Salad isn't recognizing your hardware correctly, don't try to work around it. Instead:
- Check that your hardware is supported by reviewing Is My Machine Compatible With Salad?
- Make sure your GPU drivers are up to date by reinstalling them.
- If the problem continues, contact Salad Support with details about your issue so we can help.
